AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST

Dr. Karand’s main scholarship interests are in global and low-resource engineering education. She works with local and international partners to develop opportunities for her students to learn about designing products for low-resource settings, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and cultural humility. Her previous work explores the importance of cardiovascular stiffness as a marker for vascular disease. Dr. Karand is an avid educator and seeks to incorporate hands-on learning techniques into her lessons. She believes in the importance of developing well-rounded engineers, who can think critically and thrive both independently and on team-based projects.
